
Kathmandu: A Nepali Sherpa woman on Thursday broke her own record for the most number of summits of the world’s highest peak, Everest. Sherpa’s brother and expedition organizer Mingma Gelu said Lakpa Sherpa and several other climbers took advantage of the favorable weather to reach the 8,849 m (29,032 ft) high summit. He said that she (Sherpa) is healthy and is descending safely.
Sherpa, who hails from Nepal, lives in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA with her three children. Another Nepalese Sherpa guide, Kami Rita, reached the summit for the 26th time on Saturday. He also broke his own record for the highest climb of Everest. Rita led a group of Sherpa climbers who roped in along the way so that hundreds of other climbers could reach the summit by the end of the month.
