As per Sama TV report, Pakistan was first designated as CPC in 2018. The report cited a non-governmental organization’s (NGO) Center for Social Justice (CSJ) report that authorities charged and imprisoned some 84 individuals for blasphemy in 2021, compared to 199 CSJs reported in 2020. 16 people sentenced to death
During the year, at least 16 people accused of blasphemy were executed across the country, but none were executed. The report further noted that non-governmental organizations (NGOs), legal observers and religious minority representatives continue to express concerns about the failure of lower courts to adhere to basic evidence standards in blasphemy cases. Concerns have also been expressed about the slow pace of adjudication of these cases, which has led to the detention of suspects for some years, the report said.
Atrocities on minorities increased
They were waiting for their initial trial or appeal. High courts overturned their sentences for lack of evidence and acquitted some of the guilty. Throughout the year, unidentified persons attacked and killed religiously motivated Christians, Ahmadis, Sikhs, Sunnis, Shias and Hindus. The attackers’ links with organized terrorist groups were unknown.
